Op zaterdag 31 augustus wordt de 2024 editie van Swim to Fight Cancer georganiseerd. Na een geweldige editie in 2022 zal de Hooikade dit jaar hopelijk weer volstromen met de swimmers en spinners van Swim to Fight Cancer Delft. Wil jij dit jaar ook meedoen? Dan kun je je vanaf nu inschrijven!
De organisatie zal proberen, met behulp van de landelijke stichting Fight Cancer, de Swim dit jaar nóg succesvoller te maken dan de vorige editie. Met een aparte zwemafstand voor kinderen (tot 12 jaar, op 8 september in Zwembad Kerkpolder), voor junioren (op 31 augustus ook in het Rijn-Schiekanaal), de mogelijkheden tot zwemmen in je eentje, met een vriendenteam, bedrijventeam of familie. Natuurlijk is er dit jaar weer de optie om te gaan spinnen, zodat iedereen zijn steentje kan bijdragen aan de strijd tegen kanker, ook diegenen die (liever) niet zwemmen.
Ook dit jaar is de start in het water voor Huszár aan de Hooikade. De deelnemers zwemmen ruim twee kilometer om via sponsoring geld op te halen voor onderzoek naar kanker. Vanaf de Hooikade wordt er door het Rijn-Schiekanaal richting de Sebastiaanbrug, daar wordt er gekeerd en naar de Abtswoudsebrug gezwommen. Daar wordt er weer gekeerd en zwemmen de zwemmers naar de finish op de Hooikade. Als je zelf niet wilt of kunt zwemmen of spinnen dan kan je natuurlijk wel doneren en komen aanmoedigen om de zwemmers zo een steuntje in de rug te geven.
Voor de diverse leeftijden en afstanden dienen deelnemers in het bezit te zijn van of een zwemdiploma A of A&B. De Kids Swim wordt gehouden in het Kerkpolder zwembad, de afstanden zijn 250, 500 of 1.000 meter. De Junior Swim vindt plaats in het Rijn-Schiekanaal, de afstanden zijn 500 of 2.000 meter. De spinners kunnen op verschillende momenten op de middag hun kunnen tonen en zich op die manier laten sponsoren om zo hun steentje bij te dragen.

We hopen dat er weer een hoop geld wordt opgehaald tijdens Swim to Fight Cancer, maar waar gaat geld dan eigenlijk naar toe? Door jouw bijdrage kunnen talentvolle artsen en onderzoekers op het hoogste niveau kennis en vaardigheden opdoen in de oncologie. De stichting Fight Cancer selecteert elk jaar samen met KWF een aantal onderzoeken.
Programma tijdens en na de Swim: De strijd tegen kanker is heel serieus en juist daarom is het belangrijk om het leven te blijven vieren. Dat gebeurt ook dit jaar met een programma tijdens én na de Swim op de kade van het Rijn-Schiekanaal. Voor de zwemmers, de spinners, hun families en vrienden, maar ook voor alle andere bezoekers. Zaterdag 31 augustus wordt hopelijk weer een mooie dag voor Swim to fight Cancer.

The 2024 edition of Swim to Fight Cancer will be organised on Saturday, August 31. After a great edition in 2022, the Hooikade will hopefully fill up again this year with the swimmers and spinners of Swim to Fight Cancer Delft. Do you also want to participate this year? Then you can register from now on!
The organisation will try, with the help of the national Fight Cancer foundation, to make this year's Swim even more successful than the previous edition. With a separate swimming distance for children (up to 12 years old, on September 8th in the Kerkpolder Swimming Pool), for juniors (also in the Rijn-Schiekanaal on August 31st), the possibilities for swimming by yourself, with a team of friends, company team or family. Of course, this year there will be the option of spinning instead of swimming again, so that everyone can contribute to the fight against cancer, even those who prefer not to swim.
This year the start will be in the water in front of Huszár at the Hooikade again. The participants swim more than two kilometers to raise money for cancer research through sponsorship. From the Hooikade the participants swim through the Rijn-Schiekanaal towards the Sebastiaanbrug, where they turn around and swim to the Abtswoudsebrug. There they turn again and they swim to the finish at Hooikade. If you don't want to or can't swim or spin yourself, you can of course donate and come and encourage the swimmers and spinners to lend a helping hand that way.
For the various ages and distances, participants must be in possession of a swimming diploma A or A&B. The Kids Swim is held in the Kerkpolder swimming pool, the distances are 250, 500 or 1,000 meters. The Junior Swim takes place in the Rijn-Schiekanaal, the distances are 500 or 2,000 meters. The spinners can show their skills at various times during the afternoon and get sponsored to contribute.

We hope that a lot of money will be raised again during Swim to Fight Cancer, but where does the money actually go? Through your contribution, talented doctors and researchers can gain knowledge and skills in oncology at the highest level. Every year, the Fight Cancer foundation selects a number of studies together with KWF.
Program during and after the Swim: the fight against cancer is very serious and that is precisely why it is important to continue to celebrate life. This will also happen this year with a program during and after the Swim on the quay of the Rijn-Schiekanaal. For the swimmers, the spinners, their families and friends, but also for all other visitors. Saturday, August 31 will hopefully be another great day for Swim to Fight Cancer.
